Material is the real choice. Slate engraves as a pale mark on dark stone and feels substantial on a table, but it's brittle and needs its felt pads kept intact so it doesn't scratch furniture. Leatherette sets are lighter, softer on a surface and come in more colours, which makes them easier to match to an interior. Wipe slate with a damp cloth and keep it out of the dishwasher; leatherette should never be conditioned or oiled. Allow 7–10 business days from proof approval.
